Hurstville

I think Hurstville is a good place to live in Sydney. When I came to Australia the first time i started living in Hurstville.

Firstly, all facilities, like shops, doctors, banks, shopping centre are very close to my home. So I can enjoy everything.

For example, it has a very big shopping centre so you can enjoy shopping . And Hurstville has a big station which very frequent trains.

Secondly, Hurstville is safe. Many Chinese live here become this feel safe. I'm Korean and like Chinese people I feel different, because we are Asian people. In other suburbs we don't feel as comfortable, people can discriminate again it us. So that's why i like this area. We are all the same.

For all these reasons, I wouldn't like anywhere else in Sydney.

The city of Cairns

Cairns, is situated on the north west coast in Australia . It's in Queensland, 1700km from Brisbane, and 2500km from Sydney by road.
It's the safest tropical city in the world.
The population of Cairns is 123,760 people.
In Cairns, in summer is often wet and very humid. Most rain falls late afternoon. It's weather average in winter temperature is 24°C to 28°C and in Summer 30°C to 35°C.
Especially it's in July the coldest is minimum 16°C and it's in October to December there are frequent thunderstorms. It's a very tropical climate.
There are 25 state primary schools and a large TAFE campus. There is a very small University, whose called is James cook University .
It has 3500 students.
The main industry is tourism in winter and many people go fishing.
The popular tourist activities are in diving and river rafting.
It has good natural attractions for visitor.
First, it's very clear and warm in winter so you can enjoy excellent diving in Great Barrier Reef.
Second , its sand is white and water is very clear and clean in beautiful beaches.
So it's can be enjoy the Cairns.

letters to the editor

The Editor

Dear sir.

Do you think smoking is good for our health?

No, it's very bad. And also you waste money and pollute our cities. If you have extra money , why don't you contribute to the well being of poor children?

Think about your family and your friends getting health problems because of passive smoking.

Don't be late, give up now!

Physical Punishment and Children

In my opinion physical punishment is not good for children.
There are a couple of reasons.

First, according to psychologists hitting children can cause slow development for children.
For example their IQ can be reduced because of punishment or children can lose their confidence easily. Once they lose their confidence often they become bullied by other children.

Secondly, hitting children can cause serious physical damage. Especially when parents are angry, they treat children quite strongly. Accidentally they can hurt children or give them serious injuries or brain damage. Sometimes it leads to death.

Thirdly, physical punishment does not work with children. If parents hit them many times, children get used to it easily. It makes children be negative. And also it makes the relationship between parents and children very bad.

As I mentioned above, physical punishment to children can cause serious physical mental and social problems.
Therefore it doesn't work properly for children.
What is good for children then ? Parents in Australia need to think again about this question.

Using technology to learn ESOL

The world wide web has become part of our life. We are using the Internet everyday. Through he Internet we can learn, communicate and have fun.

As an English language learner, using the Internet is very helpful.

First, we can learn English anytime anywhere. For example I can study in a cafe or a park during my free time. Also I don't need to attend English classes on a specific day and times, because there are on-line classes on the Internet.

Secondly, I can study or learn English through the Internet by communicating with others. For example, I can chat with people from whole world and I can improve my English ability by managing my own website, blog or social networks such as facebook. Sending and respending messages is another from of English practice.

Thirdly, using technology is just fun. For example, I do web surfing everyday and I find so many news, events and stories. Which are interesting to me. By web surfing I become familiar with the world and the English language.

As I mentioned above new technology is quite helpful to English learners. If we use this technology rightly, it will give us more information and fun.

Dust storm

Dust storm

We talked about the dust storm yesterday. When I got up the sky was red, so I thought "why is the sky red? ".
I asked my husband and he said to me " I don't know. Wow! How amazing! I've never seen this colour."
We turned on the TV they said " This is a sand storm ". When I was in Korea we could see a yellow sky during the spring season, but I had never seen it in here. I opened the window in the kitchen and this yellow sand appeared in my kitchen. So when I came home after school I needed to clean my kitchen. The air was no good for my nose but the sky looked very beautiful . THe most beautiful sky I have ever seen in my life.

what are tigers?

what are tigers?

A tiger, also known as Felis tigers is a very big and carnivorous feline (cat) mammal. They belong to the Felidae family (also meaning cat).

Tiger Habitat

Tiger's habitat is dependant on two basic factors. Firstly, it should provide good cover for stalking and secondly, it should have a good abundance of prey. Due to this, the tigers' domain covers almost every corner of India. It is found in the lower Himalayan mountainous regions of the northern states of Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal. Although not as easy to sight due to the dense forests or the north eastern region, it's presence can definitely be felt from the alarmed calls of the rest of the animals.

How tall is a tiger?
The tiger reach a shoulder height between 70-110 cm, depending of the subspecies.

How long do tigers live for?
Tigers live about eight to ten years in the wild, but they can live up to twenty two years in captivity.
Lions and tigers can live 20 years or more, but most don't make it past 12.

when I first time in australia

My first day in Australia was a very cold day in June 2006. I was picked up by my husband at the airport, because he left 6months before I was missing him very muchm and was very excited to him. I had travelled to Australia 2 years before, so I felt very nervous and excitied.
He lived in Hurstville. We caught a taxi home. I was hungry so we went to a chinese restaurant.
When I tried chinese food for the first time. It was good but it's smell was not good for me.
When we finished eating I felt very tired I needed to take a rest.
My husband and I have started a newlife in Australia, so we are a little bit worried about it and nervous. I'm sure we can do it!

my son!

I have one son whose his name is Ryan.
He's 1 year old. He's very lovely and cute.
Sometimes he's very naughty. These days I'm looking after my baby too hard because he's started walking, so he can move all around and I have to keep an eye on him so that he doesn't get hurt.
I follow my baby everywhere. When I started school he also started going to a childcare centre.
This morning he was crying very much, so I couldn't go out and leave him, but I think next week he'll better than this week.
